Optimum seismic design of structures is studied. In Japan Highway Bridge Specifications, for the verification of seismic resisting of design the time history dynamic analysis is required. On the other hand authors has proposed the seismic design method, where first the primal design is obtained by combining the simple seismic verification method and optimization method, and then the primal design is checked by the time history dynamic analysis. In this paper, the proposed method and the difference between the codes for highway bridges and railway bridges is explained. And then, the formulation of optimization problem of seismic reinforcement of existing RC structures, design of steel rigid-frame structures and design of RC rigid-frame structures are explained.
