´˜^i‰pjF This paper investigates the effects of structure modeling and nonlinear characteristics of RC and soils on the seismic response of a pile-supported bridge pier structure. The soil-structure analysis is performed by the superposition of far and near field. The far field soil is analyzed firstly in order to evaluate the input motion to the latter near field. The nonlinear soil hysteresis model is characterized by the modified Ramberg-Osgood stress-strain relationship. The Q-hyst model with inclusion of strength degradation and shear degradation effects treats the nonlinear RC behavior. Special attention is paid to evaluate the damage potentials based on different indicators. by these damage indicators interpretation is made to the collapsed Hanshin Express Way Bridge due to the Hyogoken Nanbu Earthquake, 1995.
