ƒ^ƒCƒgƒ‹i‰pjF CHARACTERISTICS OF VERTICAL COMPONENT STRONG GROUND MOTIONS BY NIOM (NORMALIZED INPUT-OUTPUT MINIMIZATION) METHOD
´˜^i‰pjF The method of Normalized Input-Output Minimization (NIOM) is applied for analyzing vertical component strong ground motions of several earthquakes recorded at different vertical arrays in Japan. While horizontal component ground motions show clear pattern of S-wave propagation, no evidence of propagating S-wave is observed in the analysis of vertical component ground motions. The S-portion of vertical component ground motion records are also separately analyzed. It is confirmed that even the S-portion of those records propagate in P-wave velocity. The results are independent of earthquakes and sites as several events at different vertical array sites are taken into consideration.
