1997年3月から5月にかけて、鹿児島県北西部地域(薩摩地方)にマグニチュ−ド6.5および6.2の地震が発生した。これら一連の地震により、震央域とその周辺地域に建築物や道路、港湾施設、斜面崩壊などに大きな被害が発生した。筆者らは、震央付近・周辺地域の地表面地震動強さおよび地盤や構造物の被害状況を把握するため、地震発生直後より被災地域の現地調査を実施し、鹿児島県・市町村の各行政機関より被害資料等の収集を行った。本論文では、現地調査および被害資料を基に、木造家屋の被害状況とその分布特性および地表面地震動強さとの関係について検討し、木造家屋の被害特性は最大速度など地表面地震動強さと地震の発震機構、特に断層運動など断層破壊形態が大きく影響することを明らかにした。

On 26 March and 13 May 1997, the area of north-west Kagoshima Pref., were attacked by earthquakes of M■■■=6.5 and 6.2, that brought about fairly large earthquake damage to buildings, roads, habor facilities and groud surfaces. Authors surveyed the damaged areas directly and collected information of these earthqakes and data of earthquake disasters from public office of Kagoshima Pref. et al. This paper discusses the damage distribution and characteristics of these, especially wooden houses and seimic ground motion severity, presented that the assessments of disaster characteristics reflect to seismic ground motion severity and fault motion.
