ƒ^ƒCƒgƒ‹i‰pjF MEASURING BUSINESS INTERRUPTION LOSSES IN ELECTIRC POWER INDUSTRY CAUSED BY AN EARTHQUAKE
´˜^i‰pjF This paper presents a model to evaluate business interruption losses in electric power industry due to a seismic event. Earthquake causes physical damages not only in supply-side facilities such as substation equipments but also in demand-side facilities such as electric devices of house, office, and factories. In order to determine a rational seismic performance level of power system, the business interruption losses due to decrease in power demand and reduction of production capacity of electric power caused by an earthquake should be evaluated. The proposed model enables us to compare the business interruption losses caused by seismic damages in both sides. In the numerical examples of housing power demands, the proposed model is applied to Kobe area struck by the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake. As a result, the revenue loss due to the damage of demand side is far larger than that due to the damage of the supply side.
