ƒ^ƒCƒgƒ‹i‰pjF EVALUATION OF EQUIVALENT DAMPING METHOD DISPLACEMENT ESTIMATES FOR SDF ONE-MASS SYSTEMS WITH ENERGY DISSIPATING DEVICES
´˜^i‰pjF The ability of the equivalent linear method to predict seismic response is investigated for elastic and inelastic (Takeda) SDF one-mass systems with energy dissipating devices (EDD). Hysteretic, viscoelastic and viscous EDD models are considered. Time-history response analyses displacement results for elastic and inelastic systems are compared. Displacements are then estimated based on the equivalent linear method, using the earthquake response spectra as well as the seismic response reduction factor Fh. Although fairly good estimates for viscous EDD systems are obtained, hysteretic systems are underestimated while viscoelastic systems are overestimated. Estimates using Fh generally give smaller, more unconservative values than those by the damped earthquake response spectra.
