ƒ^ƒCƒgƒ‹i‰pjF SIMPLE EXPRESSION OF PILE-GROUP STIFFNESS
´˜^i‰pjF A simple expression is developed for evaluating the stiffness of rigid cap pile groups. In this scheme, the concept of treating a pile group as an equivalent single upright beam is introduced. For a pile group with relatively narrow pile-to-pile spacing, the pile group stiffness can be derived with use of the equivalent single upright beam concept for dealing with elastic behavior of soil deposits as well as the ultimate state of soil resistance, while for that with wide pile-to-pile spacing a sum of the stiffness for separated single piles can be used. This scheme will be useful for seismic design of structure-pile-soil system by treating the nonlinear behaviors of both soils and structures with the equal rigor.
