抄録(英): This paper shows the engineering viewpoints to consider reasonable countermeasures against active faults for reducing damages of civil engineering structures. The stance against an active fault can be classified into three types, i.e., absorption, acceptance and avoidance according to the surface displacement level induced. The countermeasures against active faults should be considered reasonably at each work stage for civil engineering structures, i.e., planning, designing, urgent work just after an earthquake and permanent restoration.
