抄録（英）：	On 6 October 2000 (13:30), an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 (Mj ) occurred in the western part of Tottori Prefecture, Japan. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the mountainous area, but in areas Sakaiminato-shi and Hino-cho tremors of seismic intensity 6 have been recorded, causing large damage to structures. This paper describes a survey by specialists about the risk of damage to slopes and retaining walls for residential buildings, in addition to a survey by 7 communities in Tottori Prefecture and the town of Hakuatacho in Shimane Prefecture. It is believed that this survey provides new additional data useful for future design of slopes and retaining walls. Here, an analysis of damage to residential buildings and retaining walls makes a comparison against damage data of Great Hanshin Earthquake, thereby developing new insight to process earthquake damage better in future.
