Shear strain development of sand due to pore water inflow after earthquake is examined by laboratory element test, in which the effects of sand density, slope angle and liquefaction degree are studied. By solving the boundary problem of seepage and consolidation on gently inclined multi-layered ground after undrained cyclic shear process, pore water flow to the soil specimen was controlled. Following results are obtained in this study: 1) It is found that residual shear strain developed after undrained cyclic shear process can not be ignored. 2) In case of horizontal layered ground, shear strain due to pore water inflow scarcely develops. 3) Liquefaction degree scarcely contributes shear strain development characteristics during seepage failure, but it is mainly governed by density of sand.
