During the 1995 Kobe earthquake, extensive liquefaction occurred at the coastal reclaimed land. However, there were few people who saw the liquefaction because it occurred in the early morning at the no residential area. As the 2000 western Tottori prefecture earthquake occurred during the daytime on weekday, it was supposed that many people saw the liquefaction. In this study, a questionnaire survey was conducted to collect information about witnesses of liquefac-tion. As a result, knowledge of people about liquefaction, condition of sand boil, time history of ground deformation and liquefied ground motion were clarified.
