タイトル(英): SOURCE CHARACTERIZATION AND STRONG MOTION SIMULATION FOR THE 1999 KOCAELI, TURKEY AND THE 1999 CHI-CHI, TAIWAN EARTHQUAKES
抄録(英): A convenient heterogeneous source modeling is to use the empirical source characterization developed by Somerville et al. (1999). We have already checked its effectiveness by the simulations of some earthquakes with magnitudes of smaller than 7. It is very important to examine the applicability of the empirical source modeling to larger earthquake. To accomplish this objective, source characterizations for the 1999 Kocaeli, Turkey earthquake (Mw=7.4) and the Chi-Chi, Taiwan earthquake (Mw=7.6) have been done by the forward modeling using the hybrid simulation technique. The heterogeneous source models composed of three asperities have been constructed referring to the source inversion results. Simulations have been carried out by the hybrid scheme combined the 1-D theoretical method for long-period motions (>1 sec) with the stochastic simulation technique for short-period motions (<1 sec). We assumed that ground motions are generated only from three asperities. Finally,it has been shown that the estimated source models composed of three asperities are effective in simulating strong ground motions, and consistent with the empirical source characterization by Somerville et al. (1999).
