As the basic data to verify and improve seismic microzoning techniques, the damage distribution of wooden houses in the Sagami Valley, Kanagawa Prefecture, during the 1923 Kanto Earthquake is examined. By the detailed survey, the damage for each section of villages or towns is clarified. From the comparison between the damage map and site condition, it is confirmed that the damage distribution is strongly affected by local soil conditions such as topography, geology and the thickness of alluvial deposits.
