抄録(英): Rupture directivity effect in near fault regions for the great inter-plate earthquakes is numerically estimated on the basis of kinematic source model. Half space and multi-layered subsurface structure are assumed, and homogeneous and inhomogeneous rupture processes are considered. The fault-normal component is strongly predominant in near fault regions when the rupture propagates along the dip direction on the fault plane. On the contrary, the phenomena become weak when the rupture propagates along the strike direction of the dipping fault. It is concluded that the direction of rupture propagation together with the fault mechanism is a key factor to control the amplitude of strong motions in near fault regions.
