The earthquake disaster scenario analysis for Ulaanbaatar City, Mongolia has been conducted to promote governmental and NGO activities for future disaster prevention. To evaluate earthquake risk of the city we adopted a very extensive approach, in which we definitively need information of various kinds for quantitative evaluation. To this end we conducted field surveys for source delineation, ground characterization, building modeling, and statistical building database. Based on such information we reached to the final estimate of devastating damage, namely 700 buildings would be collapsed or heavily damaged, when an intermediate size earthquake occurs in an intermediate distance. Through the course of the study we found directions of future investment for more quantitative risk estimate.
