ƒ^ƒCƒgƒ‹i‰pjF COMPARATIVE STUDY ON DAMAGE DUE TO THE OFF-MIYAGI EARTHQUAKES OF 1897, 1936 AND 1978
´˜^i‰pjF Off- Miyagi earthquakes have been occurred repeatedly with an interval of around 40 years. Twenty-four years have been passed since the last Off-Miyagi earthquake of 1978 caused serious damage in and around Sendai City and the next one is expected in near future. It is important to know the previous damage of the same type earthquakes for a prediction of damage due to a future event. In this area, two earthquakes of 1936 and 1897 were occurred preceding. These detailed damage can be traced through newspaper articles at that time. In this paper, comparative study on earthquake damage among three earthquakes of 1978, 1936 and 1897 is attempted listing detailed damage by local municipalities. Damage distribution and difference of degrees of damage are discussed.
