A fundamental theory is developed for finding the member stiffness of a three-dimentional building frames for specified fundamental natural period and mode. A set of closed-form solutions has been derived for a class of three-dimensional multi-story multi-span frames. Some characteristics of so-designed frames have been disclosed. A design example of a five story setback building frame for specified fundamental natural period and mode has been illustrated.
