The earthquake detection/warning system is developed for post-earthquake control of large-scale lifeline systems. This paper describes the concept of the real-time seismic data processing system for estimating the location and magnitude of earthquake. Earthquake acceleration records are simulated on the basis of the standard autoregressive model. The major contribution of this paper is the use of the Kalman filter for identifying model parameters recursively. P and S wave onset times are exactly estimated by using the AIC method for AR model.
