It is necessary to foresee the geological conditions of pillars in oder to excavate safely and efficiently. Four pillars in the N0. 9 ore body and one virgin ground near the pillars in KAMIOKA TOCHIBORA mine were investigated using seismic velocity and tomography. Results of seismic velocity in the pillars, No.11 pillar is the lowest seismic velocity in the four pillars and N0. 22 is the highest seismic velocity. Results of seismic tomography, No.11 pillar consists of some low velocity elements under 4,000m/s and N0. 22 and N0. 28 pillars almost consist of high velocity elements of 4,5OO-5,500m/s but partly low velocity areas. No. 17 pillar consists of high velocity element of 4,5OO-5,500m/s. Virgin ground consists high velocity element of 5,000-5,500m/s. As the results of seismic velocity and tomography, No.11 pillar is assumed to be in the worst geological condition in the four pillars of N0. 9 ore body in KAMIOKA TOCHIBORA mine.
