The joint research program on development of the base isolation for highway bridges has been underway between Public Works Research Institute and 28 private firms since 1989.The program is developing the new base isolation devices,the new expansion joint and the new restrainer for base isolated bridges,and the base isolation design method for highway bridges,and investigating the application of the base isolation.The report presents the current situation of the base isolationtechnology in Japan and foreign countries,and the brief outline of the program.
