It has become an established fact that the effects of cyclic loading on the behavior of the embankment soils are considerably influenced by the stresses existing in the soil before the cyclic stress is applied. The cyclic shear stress and static effective normal stress ratio in any given plane which governs the liquefaction potential of saturated sand is analysed in this paper and the stress conditions in the plane in which cyclic shear stress and static effective normal stress ratio reaches maximum is suggested to predict the liquefaction potential for the inclined ground. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
