In this paper, an advanced earthquake damage prediction method based on expert system is proposed. This method is developed mainly for the purpose of seismic damage assessment of large scale oil storage tanks which are intensively facilitated in the petrochemical and oil refinery plant complex. After some historical survey of structural damage due to actual earthquakes of the past, damage modes are classified into several representative categories which can lead to make knowledge base in the system. Inference equine is also established on the basis of such information as ground motion characteristics, configuration of storage tanks and liquid (oil) state condition in the tanks.
