Volunteer activities after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake and 1994 Northridge earthquake were paid attention by the officers and researchers who work on urban disaster prevention in Japan. The present paper deals with the volunteer activities after the 1993 Hokkaido Nansei-oki earthquake. The actual circumstance of activities was investigated and the data obtained were analyzed. The points at issue on the volunteer activities after disaster were clarified.
