抄録（英）：
A big earthquake occurred in the Japan SEA off southwest Hokkaido island at 22:17 Iocaltime on July 12 in 1993. Strong ground motions, subsequent tsunami and fires resulted in serious damage on the small island of Okushiri. By usihg the data of questinnaire survey for all the households in the island, we estimated the seismic impact such as ground motion severity and tsunami inducing damage to dwellings and classified the damage pattern on buildings. As a result of this analysis, it was cleared that the damage rate of dwellings was described by the seismic destructive power represented by the following indicators: seismic intensity with relation to ground shaking severity and tsunami run-up height, that is, the inundation height above ground level.
