抄録（英）：
An empirical formula for the estimation of deaths in collapsed wooden buildings was derived with due consideration of the occurrence time of an earthquake. First, using damage data of the 1923 Kanto, Japan earthquake, we composed a relationship between the number of collapsed buildings and that of deaths attributed to the collapse. Second, on the basis of descriptions of experiences written by the affected of the earthquake, we esimated the number of occupants, or possible victims, in a building at the moment of the occurrence of the earthquake. Third, referring published data of temporal occupancy, we demonstratad the change of the expected number of deaths with the occurrence time of an earthquake.
