Overturning of furniture due to the 1993 Kushiro-oki earthquake was investigated in office rooms at Kushiro City Hall and Kushiro Local Meteorological Observatory. The overturning rate of furniture depends on the installation situation, and the observed overturning rates are not consistent with the results from the previous numerical simulation or shaking-table experiment. Based on the investigation results, the empirical relations for estimating the overturning rates of typical furnitures are proposed as a function of the peak velocity of the floor response. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
