抄録（英）：
In 1993, the Kushiro-oki earthquake occurred at 20:06 on January 15, the Noto- hanto-oki earthquake at 22:27 on February 7 and the Hokkaido-nansei-oki earthquake at 22:17 on July 12. These three earthquakes caused extensive damage to civil engineering structures, houses and the inhabitants by the liquefaction, landslide, tsunami and so on. Since the earthquakes occurred late at night, it seems that most of inhabitants stayed at their home during the earthquakes. Therefore, it is conceived that the casualties could be related to the damage of houses. The present paper shows the characteristics of the casualties and the damage to houses for each earthquake, and clarifies the relation between them.
