Effectiveness of a seismic isolator in retrofitting an RC bridge pier was studied using hybrid experimental system and numerical simulations. A high-damping rubber (HDR) bearing was tested using the substructured hybrid experimental system. This paper discusses the effectiveness of seismic isolators for retrofitting and rehabilitating damaged RC piers. The results showed that the first loadings without isolators using weak input motions did not affect the responses of the isolators under second loadings using strong input motions. However, elongated natural period of the piers due to previous earthquake damage affected the response of the piers themselves. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
