The objective of this paper is to use probabilistic methods to evaluate structural safety of reinforced concrete buildings designed in accordance with the 1993 PRESS guidelines. Future earthquake ground motions are simulated based on historical earthquake data available at sites. Seismic risk analyses are performed to determine the probability of exceeding various design thresholds in a building's lifetime. The safety level implied in the design guidelines is evaluated based on the calculated exceedance probabilities. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
