An estimation method on maximum response of a SDOF nonlinear system during earthquakes, which is used equivalency between momentary energy spectra and absorbed energy of the system, is proposed. The method can simply estimate the maximum displacement and acceleration with the relation between displacement and restoring force. Definitions of momentary energy spectra and absorbed energy for the method were discussed using numerical models. From the results, we found that it is suitable to use 1/4 cycle of the hysteresis loop of the nonlinear system as the evaluation time of the energy and that the method is valid for simple evaluation of nonlinear response. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
