Destructive power of strong ground motions with high level ground acceleration was investigated by comparing elastic and inelastic response of single-degree-of-freedom systems under the input of a number of strong ground motions with high level ground acceleration to those under the input of the widely used strong ground motions. It was found that the destructive power of strong ground motions with high level ground acceleration is rather small compared with that of the widely used strong ground motions.
