Dynamic response characteristics of expanded polystyrol (EPS) block assemblies are investigated using experimental results by shaking table tests for EPS embankments models. Finite element(FE)analysis and distinct element(DE)analysis are conducted using material parameters identified by resonant curves of the experiment. The results of FE analysis show good agreement with those by the tests when no separation occurs between the EPS blocks. DE analysis can simulate the behavior of the EPS blocks even after separations occur. Hence DE analysis is found to be a powerful tool for evaluation of earthquake response of civil strustures using EPS blocks. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
