To investigate shear strength of reinforced concrete columns using high strength concrete of ■=60MPa grade, measured ultimate shear strengths of twenty specimens were compared with ultimate shear strength obtained from plastic theory. The variables investigated were the quantity and yield stress of transverse reinforcement and the level of applied axial load. As a result, the factor of effective compressive strength of concrete and an upper limit of the yield stress of transverse reinforcement should be examined in more detail.
