In establishing the seisimic design method for underground structures , it is important to make clear the characteristics of underground seismic notions and to know actual behaviors of large cave-m during earthquakes . The observational results shows that fairly reduction can be expected to the ground surface in near field earthquakes exept for up-down motion, and the cavern wall vibrates according with around rock, and Spectral Intensity defined by Dr. G. W. Housner is suitable for the design. As the relative displacement of both cavern walls get less and response spectrum period is shortenning, the quasi-static loading method will be satisfy for seisimic design now .
