Responses of single piles considered the kinematic soil-pie interaction have been qualitatively analized in a wide range of parameter for floating and end bearing piles installed in surface strata subjected to harmonic seismic waves. The characteristics of the kinematic seismic response normalised by the free surface motion with a proposed characteristic wave number, which is expressed as the number of the longitudinal or lateral wave length of the soil ranging over a effective length of the pile, can be estimated independently of the ratio of pile length to soil thickness the stiffness ratio of pile to soil and the slenderness ratio of the pile. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
