The foundation stiffnesses related to the side surface of an embedded structure for Sway-Rocking soil model representing 3-dimensional wave propagation effects are derived and a simplified method for dynamic soil-structure interaction problems is presented. Seismic response analyses of a cylindrical rigid structure embedded in a soil stratum overlying harder half space are carried out and rocking impedace, transfer and response functions are calculated. The approximation and applicability of the proposed model are discussed by being compared with the more exact results from the 3-dimensional thin layer approach and practical results from Novak ' s model.
