Although the earth pressure during earthquakes on building foundations indicates directly seismic forces for the foundations, few of them are used to evaluate foundation input motions. This paper indicated a method of evaluation of foundation input motions using earth pressure during earthquakes, and investigated characteristics of them. Observed earth pressure waves during earthquakes on a backfilling structure model were used for the investigations. From the investigations, some precious characteristics for earth pressure during earthquakes and foundation input motions were obtained; and this evaluation method of foundation input motions by earth pressure during earthquakes had a good agreement with a previous study using other method.
