In order to predict the large deformation of liquefied ground, a finite element method based on Arbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian description (ALE FEM) is presented. ALE FEM makes use of the advantages of Lagrangian and Eulerian descriptions, and could easily handle large distortions without element entanglement. The validation of the presented ALE FEM is performed by simulating the results of dynamic centrifuge tests. In addition, ALE FEM is compared with the ordinary FEM. It is confirmed that ALE FEM could well predict the experiment results, and could handle large deformation of liquefied ground that ordinary FEM could not.
