In this paper, it is attempted to numerically analyze the effect due to the element shape and initial state and surface asperity on the liquefaction behavior of granular materials. 8 models with different flatness ratio and initial states and surface asperity has been used for the DEM simulations of torsional simple shear test under constant volume condition. The results shows that the effects of element shape are not clear on the liquefaction process and the surface asperity can effects liquefaction strength of granular materials.
