To investigate the effect of over consolidation on the liquefaction strength, undrained cyclic triaxial tests were performed using undisturbed soil samples. Soil specimens were sampled using a thin wall sampler by block sampling and were frozen by dry-ice to avoid disturbance. The sampling point locates in Narashino city, Chiba prefecture and the sampling depth was GL-3.5 - 4.0m of fine sand deposit. SPT N-value of the deposit was about 10 and the average relative density of the specimens was 70%. The liquefaction strength of over consolidated samples (OCR=2) shows 1.35 times higher than that of normally consolidated samples. This effect of over consolidation confirms the applicability of liquefaction resistant methods of the ground with existing structures by pre-loading or dropping a water table.
