AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON FLUID PROPERTIES OF LIQUEFIED SAND
|
´˜^i‰pjF
The authors conducted two kinds of laboratory tests on fluid properties of liquefied sand. In the first test, The coefficients of viscosity of liquefied sand were estimated from loads acting on a sphere moving in that with constant velocities. On the other hand, by using viscous meter, it were measured from torque moments of a rotating rod in fluid. From these laboratory tests, the following results were obtained : 1) Liquefied sand behaves as viscous fluid, 2) Coefficient of viscosity of liquefied sand does not depend on input acceleration, but on relative density of sand as well as on velocity of shearing strain, 3) Coefficient of viscosity of liquefied sand was estimated from loads acting on the sphere coincided with that measured by viscous meter. The results from the present study will provide the foundamental information to rationally estimate behavior of the ground after liquefaction and to investigate the mechanism of occurrence of liquefaction-induced large ground displacement.
