Several shaking table tests were performed to study the characteristics of permanent displacement of sandy gravel ground and the settlement of structures in a sandy gravel deposit. In these tests, cellulose liquid was used instead of water to decrease permeability. Permanent ground displacement due to liquefaction occurred in the sandy gravel layer and in a loose sand layer, if the permeability of the sandy gravel was decreased to the same value as that of the loose sand layer.
