An analytical method is presented for estimating nonlinear soil properties from strong motion down hole array records. In this report, the method is applied to two sites (Lotung, Wildlife), after identifing dominant S-wave propagation within the records, and the computed dynamic properties of surface soil are studied. It is shown that the strain-dependent soil properties evaluated from strong motion records are in good agreement with those measured in the laboratory over a strain range from 10¡ to 10¡, and that nonlinear soil properties of subsurface soils during strong shaking are more remarkable than those of deeper layers. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
