Long-period ground motions in the southern Kanto District have been estimated using a variable-slip rupture model of the 1923 Kanto earthquake determined by Wald and Somerville (1993). The largest ground motions are found to occur along the shallow southern margin of the inferred fault plane. Predicted motions at sites to the north are relatively small and do not show the large amplification near 13 sec period that is inferred from the Ewing seismoscope record at Hongo. A preliminary analysis of regional seismograms indicates compatibility with the Wald and Somerville (1993) rupture model. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
