Analysis of seismic response of a common duct with flexible joints is presented here. The common duct model consists of uniform beams with rectangular cross sections connected by the springs which represent flexible joints. Neglecting the effect of the inertia and damping forces. the axial and lateral governing equations of the common duct for the ground displacement are solved statically by the modified transfer matrix method. Numerical computations are conducted on the displacements and the stresses of the duct and deformation of the joints. Results show that the axial stress of a common duct element is reduced by using axial soft joints, but laterally the rotational joint is not effective on the reduction of the stress of a common duct. ƒL[ƒ[ƒhi‰pjF - ‹LŽ–‹æ•ªF - ‹æ•ª @@@ˆÏˆõ‰ï˜_•¶W
