This paper describes some aspects of the behaviour of moment-resisting steel frames under seismic loading. Inelastic dynamic time-history analyses were carried out in order to obtain suitable recommendations for the design of this type of frame in New Zealand. Included is a brief summary of some of the major findings from these analyses which have consequences in selecting a method for the determination of column sizes.
