CHARACTERISTICS OF SHEAR DEFORMATION OF SATURATED SAND UNDER SURFACE WAVE PROPAGATION CONDITION

Saturated sands under surface wave (Love wave) propagation condition are experimentally studied using a new "Bi-axial shear apparatus". This apparatus is developed for applying deformations similar to that produced during Love wave propagation. The results of undrained shear tests indicate possibility of liquefaction caused by Love wave excitation. Based on the classical plasticity theory, the results obtained from drained shear tests under the above stress condition are also discussed.
