THE CHARACTERISTICS OF MICROTREMORS IN TANGSHAN AREA CHINA

Fundamental characteristics of microtremors are studied in order to apply them to seismic zonation in Tangshan area, China. The stable predominant period but changeable amplitudes are found by a continuous measurement of microtremors at downtown of Tangshan City(EMH). The results of temporary measurement at station by station over Yutian area show that the predominant periods change systematically along with the locations, where the stability of predominant period at each station is expected from the experience in EMH. And it is confirmed that the predominant period changes in accordance with the thickness of the sediments down to the basement. The results would be important supplementary information to understand the geological condition.
