Sand models of the fill-type dam were rocked simultaneously both in the directions horizontal perpendicular to the dam axis and vertical. Accelerations and conditions at the time of failure of the models were investigated. An effect of the vertical seismic force on the failure was supposed to be 1/2.5-1/3 of that of horizontal seismic force.
