Role of a tensorial formulation is emphasized in characterizing the combined lateral and torsional deformation of structure developed on the horizontal plane under the action of two-dimensional earthquake shakings. With a practically sufficient generality, this aids to straightforwardly understand significant trends in the entire scope of problem. In particular, simple geometric rules are shown to feature the tenser field of pointwise two-dimensional drifts. The results obtained are then used to totally clarify torsional effects in the elementary bases of one-way eccentricity.
